What is an OPG Scan?

An orthopantomogram (OPG) scan, also known as a dental X-ray, is a simple medical imaging technology that offers a panoramic view of a patient’s upper and lower jaws, including the teeth and joints. The OPG unit works by rotating around the patient’s head during the scan to offer a complete view of the area, taking approximately 20 seconds to complete.

How an OPG Scan Can Help You

OPG dental scans play a crucial role in providing comprehensive orthodontic care to patients. Dentists regularly utilise these X-rays to accurately diagnose and monitor a range of oral health conditions, including:

  • Cavities
  • Impacted teeth
  • Bone loss in the jaw
  • Oral infections
  • And more…

By using this imaging technology to identify these kinds of oral health issues, doctors can plan and execute a number of effective treatments, resulting in improved outcomes and patient satisfaction.
